$3.8 Million Contract Will Fund Biological Process for HIV Microbicide

With $3.8 million in new funding from the Mintaka Foundation of Medical Research supported by the Wellcome Trust, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Biological Process Development Facility is developing a process to manufacture a stable and affordable microbicide to protect women from contracting and spreading HIV.
The contract is one of the largest and the latest to the university's Biological Process Development Facility. Over the next two years, the facility will develop a process and manufacture the microbicide, 5P12-RANTES, that can be administered to women in a vaginal cream for resisting HIV transmission. more...

University Communications is planning a TV commercial shoot in Memorial Stadium on Sept. 23, and everyone is invited to participate. The TV commercial will highlight the passion Nebraska alumni and fans have for their team and university -- how we are all part of something big at Nebraska.

Etling Headed to Croatia on Fulbright Grant
Arlen Etling has received a Senior Fulbright Specialist Grant, announced by the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.
Etling, a professor in UNL's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, will do his Fulbright work at the University of Zagreb, Croatia, where he will consult on study abroad, faculty exchanges, leadership and curriculum development. more...
Special Screening of ABC's New Show "My Generation" is Tonight
A pre-screening of the new ABC drama “My Generation” is 6 p.m., Sept. 16 in the Nebraska Union Ballroom. The screening is free. UNL Campus NightLife and ABC sponsor the screening. T-shirts will be given to the first 300 students. Refreshments will be provided.
"My Generation" is a documentary-style show that follows a group of high school seniors as they prepare for graduation, and then revisits the former classmates 10 years later. The drama focuses on how actual events in the last decade (i.e. Hurricane Katrina and 9/11) have shaped and affected the characters’ lives. more...
