Nebraska Colloquium Lecture Series Launches
The Nebraska Colloquium lecture series kicks off at 7 p.m., Sept. 22 in the Nebraska Union. UNL's Tim Borstelmann, Elwood and Katherine Thompson professor of world history, will lead a discussion, "Globalization: The Path to the Present."
The Nebraska Colloquium lecture series aims to engage the entire UNL community in thoughtful discussion of issues of overriding importance. The 2010-2011 lecture series will focus on the theme, "Globalization's Promise." more...
Scholarship to Support Future Generations of Beef Cattle Veterinarians

A student scholarship fund has been created to honor the longtime service of Gary Rupp, who has retired as professor and founding director of the University of Nebraska Great Plains Veterinary Educational Center near Clay Center, Neb.
To recognize his 22 years of leadership, colleagues and members of the beef cattle industry created an endowed student scholarship fund in his name for the School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. more...

Joe Starita At Book Signing for 'I Am A Man'
UNL College of Journalism and Mass Communications associate professor and Pulitzer Prize nominee Joe Starita will read and discuss his book "I Am A Man" at 7 p.m., Sept. 22 in the University Bookstore. A book signing will follow. "I Am A Man" chronicles Chief Standing Bear's efforts to reclaim his lands and freedom. The book was recently named the 2010 "One Book - One Lincoln" selection.
For the past seven years, Starita has taught many of the college's depth reporting classes, which are designed to give students the skills to probe deeply into a focused topic. Before joining the journalism faculty in 2003, Starita spent 13 years at the Miami Herald, where he served as the paper's New York bureau chief from 1983-1987.
Hydrogeophysicist to Discuss Grape Growing

Susan Hubbard
Susan Hubbard, a pioneer in hydrogeophysics, will present "Waves and Wine: Geophysical Characterization to Guide Precision Viticulture" at 3:30 p.m., Sept. 22 in the Hardin Hall Auditorium.
Hubbard, staff scientist and Environmental Remediation and Water Resources program leader at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, will discuss the practical use of advanced datasets to guide precision agriculture. Specifically, she will present research on how viticulturists can use data on geophysical attributes of vineyards to manage natural site variability. more...
