October Career Fairs to Bring Over 200 Employers to Campus
With three full days dedicated to a variety of recruiting focuses, career fair season will be under way Oct. 5-7. Career Services is preparing to host more than 200 employers at a variety of events this month. Events will take place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Nebraska or East Union, depending on the day's recruiting focus.
- Oct. 5 - Engineering (Nebraska Union)
- Oct. 6 - Business, Service, Government, Liberal Arts and Science (Nebraska Union)
- Oct. 7 - Agricultural Science and Natural Resources (East Union)

Walk-in Flu Shot Clinics To Be Held Throughout October
The University Health Center will hold flu shot clinics throughout the month beginning Oct. 5. The influenza vaccine is good for both seasonal and H1N1 influenza. Flu shots will cost $25 with payment of cash or check required at the time of the shot.
The University Health Center will hold walk-in clinics every Wednesday and Thursday in October from noon-2 p.m. There will also be two walk-in clinics at the East Union on the third floor on Oct. 5 and Oct. 19 from noon-2 p.m. more...

New Projects on Algal Biology, Nanohybrids, Part of EPSCoR NSF Award

Two new research centers at UNL - one on algal biology and another on nanohybrid research - received a more than $13 million boost this week from a National Science Foundation award.
The funding award is the major part of a five-year, $20 million Nebraska EPSCoR grant announced Oct. 4, involving 29 faculty from seven disciplines at five universities: UNL, UNMC, UNK, Creighton, and Doane College. The "Track 1" award from NSF also expands opportunities for private industry-university research and development partnerships. more...
Hydrogeologist Discusses Nebraska's Changing Groundwater Resources
Recognizing that the current boundless access to water is drawing to a close, hydrogeologist James Goeke will hold "A Conversation About Nebraska Water" at 7 p.m., Oct. 5 in the Hardin Hall Auditorium. His presentation will focus on Nebraska's surface and groundwater resources.
"We don't have the abundance of precipitation that other states do, but we have a groundwater resource that is the envy of much of the world," Goeke said. "Right now, we're at a unique point in the history of Nebraska. This is comparable to when windmills and barbed wire were closing the open prairie. Storm Sewer Project to Change Holdrege Traffic Flow
A storm sewer upgrade will deliver temporary lane closures and detours for Holdrege Street traffic headed to East Campus and Varner Hall.
The project - between 38th and 40th streets on Holdrege Street - is scheduled to begin today with individual lane closures. The work peaks Oct. 18-24 with a complete shutdown of the two-block stretch of Holdrege Street. more...
