October Career Fairs to Bring Over 200 Employers to Campus
With three full days dedicated to a variety of recruiting focuses, career fair season will be under way Oct. 5-7. Career Services is preparing to host more than 200 employers at a variety of events this month. Events will take place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Nebraska or East Union, depending on the day's recruiting focus.
- Oct. 6 - Business, Service, Government, Liberal Arts and Science (Nebraska Union)
- Oct. 7 - Agricultural Science and Natural Resources (East Union)

Rockapella to Open Lied Center's 21st Season
The Lied Center for Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln turns 21 during the 2010-11 season and kicks off its year-long birthday party at 7:30 p.m. with a performance by the internationally recognized a cappella group, Rockapella.
Catapulted into fame by writing and performing the theme song for the TV show "Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?" Rockapella kicks off the Lied season with creativity, harmony and a unique sound. Featured on PBS and HBO, Rockapella has become known nationwide for its unique sound, signature harmonies and innovative style. International Textiles Symposium Opens Today
More than 250 textile professionals from around the world will be in Lincoln and visit UNL during the Textile Society of America's 12th biennial symposium, Oct. 6-9. The symposium, "Textiles and Settlement: From Plains Space to Cyber Space," was organized by a local committee led by Textiles, Clothing and Design faculty Wendy Weiss and Diane Vigna.
The exhibition slate includes 13 shows in seven UNL galleries - Cooper Gallery, Eisentrager-Howard Gallery, International Quilt Study Center and Museum, Lentz Gallery, Robert Hillestad Textiles Gallery, Rotunda Gallery and Sheldon Museum of Art. more...
Free, Confidential Depression Screenings Oct. 6-7
National Depression Screening Day is Oct. 7. The Employee Assistance Program and Counseling and Psychological Services are sponsoring free and confidential screenings Oct. 6 and 7. The Oct. 6 screenings are 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rec Center. The Oct. 7 screenings are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Nebraska and East unions.
Held annually during Mental Health Awareness Week in October, National Depression Screening Day is the nation's oldest voluntary, community-based screening program that provides referral information for treatment. Since 1991, more than half a million people each year have been screened for depressions nationwide during the screening day. more...
Bryant Completes Fulbright to Georgia

The Republic of Georgia is a long way from Nebraska. Getting to the country nestled somewhere between Europe and Asia involves lengthy layovers, overnight oceanic flights and the inability to read signs in Georgian.
Miles Bryant, professor of education administration, knows all about the grueling trek across the Atlantic. He ventured to Georgia in the spring of 2010 with some carry-on luggage and a Fulbright Scholar Grant in tow. more...
Walk-in Flu Shot Clinics To Be Held Throughout October
The University Health Center will hold flu shot clinics throughout the month beginning Oct. 5. The influenza vaccine is good for both seasonal and H1N1 influenza. Flu shots will cost $25 with payment of cash or check required at the time of the shot.
The University Health Center will hold walk-in clinics every Wednesday and Thursday in October from noon-2 p.m. There will also be two walk-in clinics at the East Union on the third floor on Oct. 5 and Oct. 19 from noon-2 p.m. more...
