Proposed Athletics Expansion Includes Research Space

A proposed expansion of Memorial Stadium will provide a unique mix of increased seating for fans, facility upgrades for student athletes and extra space for campus researchers.

Announced Oct. 8 by Tom Osborne, athletic director, the Athletic Department will propose two expansion projects during the Oct. 15 meeting of the NU Board of Regents. The first project, estimated at $55.5 million, would expand Memorial Stadium's east stands, adding approximately 5,000 seats and 30 new indoor/outdoor suites, while setting aside 20,000 square feet for research space. The second proposed capital improvement, estimated at $3.75 million, would add a new baseball/softball indoor practice facility at Haymarket Park. more...

The Medieval and Renaissance Studies Program will honor alumna and internationally renowned medieval historian Mary Martin McLaughlin in a memorial lecture Oct. 11.

The Mary Martin Laughlin Memorial Lecture, 7:30 p.m. at the Great Plains Art Museum in Hewit Place, will feature Bonnie Wheeler, director of Medieval Studies at Southern Methodist University. The lecture, "Traces of Memory of Heloise: Woman, Lover, Abbess, Philosopher," and reception are free and open to the public. more...

'Extra Credit' Author Pratt to Talk About Students, Credit

Bill Pratt

Bill Pratt, a former credit card industry executive, will give a "Money Rules!" presentation, 7 to 8:30 p.m., Oct. 11 in the Nebraska Union Auditorium. Pratt is an teaches personal money management at East Carolina University and is author of "Extra Credit: Seven Things Every College Student Should Know about Credit, Debt and Cash."

Pratt will provide tips for making money decisions and offer advice on how students can keep more cash and have fun in college. The event is free and open to the public. more...

For the third consecutive year, a University of Nebraska Press author has won the Nobel Prize in Literature.
