'Heroine' Lecture is Sunday
The next Archaeological Institute of America lecture will dig into the underwater excavation of the early 18th century steamboat Heroine. The lecture, free and open to the public, is 2 p.m, Oct. 24 in Richards Hall, room 15.
Kevin Crisman, associate professor at Texas A&M University, will deliver the lecture "'Heroine' of the Western Frontier: The Archaeology of an Early American River Steamboat." Campus Rec Offers Free Ice Skating
Campus Rec is hosting a free skate night, 9:30 to 11:30 p.m., Oct. 24 in the Ice Box on Nebraska Innovation Campus. A valid NCard must be presented for admission. General public admission is $6 per person.
Skates will be available for rent at $3 per pair.
MFA Studio Open House is Friday
Master of Fine Arts students will open their studios to the public during an open house, 5 to 8 p.m., Oct. 22 in Richards Hall. The students will be present to show and discuss their art work.
The open house is organized by Visual Arts in Practice, a graduate student organization for Master of Fine Arts candidates in the Department of Art and Art History. The organization aims to foster exchange and community among graduate students, the university and Lincoln residents through student-led programs and events.
Voting Open for Ribbon-Cutting Dedication
Three finalists have been chosen in the contest to create a memorable ribbon-cutting at the Jorgensen Hall dedication and win an iPad or dollar-value equivalent in merchandise from the UNL Computer and Phone Shop.
Voting is open through noon on Oct. 22.

Fulbright Scholar Will Examine Importance of Indian Embroidery

Visiting Fulbright Scholar Anjali Karolia will describe the history, significance and intricacies of the numerous embroidery techniques of her home country of India at 2 p.m., Oct. 24 in the International Quilt Study Center and Museum.
Karolia is teaching in the UNL Department of Textiles, Clothing and Design this semester as a Fulbright Nehru Visiting Lecturer. She is teaching a graduate level class, "Indian Traditional Textiles: Potentials and Perspectives." Her visit coincides with the Quilt Museum's exhibition, "South Asian Seams: Quilts from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh," which includes many objects with dense embroidery in unusual patterns and techniques. more...

Renowned Graphic Designer to Discuss Artistic Journey
Hans Ulrich Allemann
Hans Ulrich Allemann, internationally recognized graphic designer and fellow of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, will give a presentation chronicling his journey as a designer and educator at 5:30 p.m., Oct. 22 in Richards Hall room 14.
A native of Switzerland, Allemann launched his professional graphic design career in Zurich in 1965. He was responsible for introducing "Swiss Design," sensibilities to a radical, anti-establishment generation in the mid-1960s. Throughout the decades, his creative work has garnered many graphic design awards and honors for both his original design solutions and also contributions as a design educator. more...
Improving Energy Efficiency Focus of Green Schools Summit
Strategies for making Nebraska schools more energy efficient are the focus of the Green Schools Summit Oct. 22-23 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The summit, at UNL's Nebraska Union, 14th and R streets, will provide information and resources to help Nebraska communities create energy-efficient, high-performing schools that provide a healthy learning environment and reduce building and operating costs. The conference is expected to draw Nebraska school administrators, school board members, teachers, students, government officials, university faculty, architects, engineers and green building leaders. more...
