Author to Discuss Field Guide of Nebraskan Amphibians, Reptiles

Dan Fogell
Dan Fogell, author of recently published "Field Guide to the Amphibians and Reptiles of Nebraska," will discuss how citizen scientists can use the guide to identify animals and help track changing habitats. The talk is at 7 p.m. in the Hardin Hall auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
Fogell is a doctoral student in the School of Natural Resources whose primary interests are in the field of herpetology, specifically reptile ecology. He is currently studying the spatial ecology, demographics and life history of massasauga rattlesnakes in southeastern Nebraska. more...

Financial Quiz Show is Tonight
The University of Nebraska Federal Credit Union is teaming up with the UNL Student Money Management Center to host a Financial Quiz Show at the Old Chicago in the Haymarket at 7 p.m. Nov. 9. Participants will compete in teams of 4 for a grand prize of $200.
There will be a variety of questions covering important financial topics relevant to college students. Free Old Chicago food will be provided for event participants. Teams can register on the Student Money Management Center website.

'An Inconvenient Tax', History of Tax Discussion is Today

A free screening of the documentary "An Inconvenient Tax" and a discussion with filmmaker Vincent Vittorio and UNL economics professor John Anderson is 4 p.m. at the Nebraska Union.
"An Inconvenient Tax" explores the history of the income tax and brings to light the causes of its many complexities. The film follows the tax through wars, economic booms, and some of the most significant presidencies in U.S. history. To help crack the code, the film employs the country's top economic experts, commentators, and political voices. Noam Chomsky, Steve Forbes, Joseph Thorndike, Mike Huckabee, Charles Rossotti, Dave M. Walker, Neal Boortz, Ron Paul, and others discuss not only the problems America faces in the tax code, but also give valuable insights on how to move forward. 'Journey of the Lost Boys' Author Visit is Today

Joan Hecht, award-winning author of "The Journey of the Lost Boys," will appear at UNL Nov. 9 to present the story of the Lost Boys of Sudan. Sponsored by UNL's University Program Council, the program begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Nebraska Union Auditorium. This event is free for all students with a valid NCard and $4 for others.
Morning sessions for fifth and sixth graders are Tuesday; seventh and eighth graders are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. A few spaces for middle school students are available at the Tuesday and Thursday morning sessions. more...
UNL Hosts 1,400 for Math Day
Nebraska high school students take the PROBE 1 test as part of UNL's Math Day.
As many as 1,400 students from 100 Nebraska high schools will participate in UNL's Math Day on Nov. 9. The purpose of the event is to promote the importance of mathematics and showcase UNL to the high school students.
During the day, students will participate in competitive and recreational mathematical activities, visit with representatives from the science disciplines, and explore careers in mathematics. more...
