Sheldon Hosts 'Director to Director' Talk

The Sheldon Museum of Art will host a special Director to Director conversation between Sheldon director J. Daniel Veneciano and the new director of Omaha's Joslyn Art Museum, Jack Becker, at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 16. The directors will discuss the role of being a museum director today, and welcome questions from the audience.

The event will also serve as the introduction of Sheldon's new curator of education, Greg Nosan, who started at the museum in October. Nosan will act as the moderator during the second half of the conversation. Visitors are invited to submit questions for the directors online at the Sheldon Museum of Art website or Sheldon Facebook page.

Li-fang Zhang, the world's leading authority on intellectual styles, will deliver a series of presentations on learning, instruction and effective scholarship during a three-day visit to UNL's College of Education and Human Sciences.

Zhang is associate dean and associate professor of education at the University of Hong Kong. She has authored more than 100 articles, chapters and books on intellectual styles, or preferred ways of learning, thinking and teaching. more...

4 SVCAA Finalists Invited for Campus Interviews

Four finalists have been selected to interview for the position of senior vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, and a schedule for public presentations at receptions has been set.

The candidates are Suzanne Ortega, provost and executive vice president at University of New Mexico; David Rosowsky, dean of engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Dennis Savaiano, associate provost at Purdue University; and Gregory Washington, interim dean of the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University. Penn State Professor to Share Distance Ed Experiences

Janet Duck

To launch UNL's celebration of National Distance Learning Week, Pennsylvania State University distance educator Janet Duck will present a lecture at 11:30 a.m., Nov. 16 in the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center. She will share the pitfalls and successes she's encountered as a distance educator.

Duck has taught in the iMBA program at Penn State for seven years. She teaches fully online, in addition to hybrid and traditional courses that incorporate both synchronous and asynchronous learning environments. As the team adviser within the iMBA program, Duck manages 48 virtual student teams.

 

150 Study Abroad Scholarships Available
Study Abroad

UNL is offering up to 150 scholarships, worth $1,500 each, to students wanting to participate in a faculty-led study abroad experience or a language study program between December 2010 and August 2011. The scholarships are part of the Global Gateway program designed to promote and enhance global competency in undergraduate students and funded by the University of Nebraska Foundation through the Office of Academic Affairs.

Scholarship applications are due Dec. 1 and are available at International Affairs, 420 University Terrace and can be downloaded as a PDF. Priority for Global Gateway scholarship will be given to students who have never traveled outside the United States. Students must participate in experiences led by a UNL faculty member and for UNL credit or in language study programs abroad. more...
