Jacobs to Present Nov. 17 Olson Seminar

Margaret Jacobs
A comparison of the experiences of indigenous children who were removed from their homes through government policies in the American West and Australia is the focus of the next Paul A. Olson Seminar in Great Plains Studies. The lecture begins at 3:30 p.m. in the Great Plains Art Museum, 1155 Q St. Jacobs' talk and a 3 p.m. reception are free and open to the public. This lecture is also part of the UNL Women's and Gender Studies Colloquium Series.
"Colonizing the Senses: New Sensory Regimes in Boarding Schools for Indigenous Children on the Great Plains and in Australia, 1880-1940," is the title of the talk Nov. 17 by Margaret Jacobs, professor of history and director of women's and gender studies at UNL. Jacobs was the winner of the 2010 Bancroft Prize for her book, "White Mother to a Dark Race: Settler Colonialism, Maternalism, and the Removal of Indigenous Children in the American West and Australia, 1880-1940," published in 2009 by the University of Nebraska Press. more...

Insect Science Club Holds Honey Sale
The Insect Science Club's yearly honey sale is here. Visit City and East Campus unions to purchase honey and honey products, including comb honey, creamed honey, candles, lip balms, and lotion.
Sales are Nov. 16-17 at the Nebraska Union on City Campus and Nov. 16-18 on East Campus at the Nebraska East Union, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., or when supplies run out.

4 SVCAA Finalists Invited for Campus Interviews
Four finalists have been selected to interview for the position of senior vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, and a schedule for public presentations at receptions has been set.
The candidates are Suzanne Ortega, provost and executive vice president at University of New Mexico; David Rosowsky, dean of engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; Dennis Savaiano, associate provost at Purdue University; and Gregory Washington, interim dean of the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University. General Studies to Host Grades Workshop

The Division of General Students will offer a workshop about the role grades have on a student's transcript, 4:30-5:30 p.m., Nov. 17 in the Nebraska Union Auditorium. This workshop is free and open to students, faculty and staff.
Grade-related issues such as withdraws, incompletes, repeats, grade changes, academic probation and academic dismissal will be reviewed and discussed.
Soul Kitchen; Inside Job Play at the Ross
UNL's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center presents Soul Kitchen and Inside Job. Soul Kitchen will screen through Nov. 18, while Inside Job will show through Nov. 25.
