Lied To Host Blue Man Group's Five-Show Stand

The fast and furious theatrical extravaganza that is Blue Man Group will make their Lincoln debut in a five-show, three-day stop at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, Jan. 28-30. Performances are 7:30 p.m., Jan. 28; 2 and 7:30 p.m., Jan. 29; and 2 and 7 p.m., Jan. 30.

The Blue Man Group offers a theatrical experience that allows patrons to escape the ordinary and surround themselves in an explosion of comedy, music and technology. Four performances were originally booked for the Lied Center but demand was so great that in November a fifth performance was added. more...

Environmental Engineering Series Continues

David Alvarez, a research chemist with the U.S. Geological Survey, will present "Trace Organics in the Environment: Monitoring Techniques and Should We Even Care?" at 11 a.m., Jan. 28 in the Walter Scott Engineering Center room 111.

The seminar is part of the Environmental Engineering and Water Resources Engineering Graduate Seminar Series.

Sheldon Hosts Artwork Unveiling

The Sheldon Museum of Art will host an unveiling of a new commissioned piece by the artist Niho Kozuru at a special event on Friday, January 28 at 5 p.m. Japanese-born Kozuru's work "Transplanted" will be displayed in the Great Hall. "Transplanted" will be introduced just after 5 p.m. and a reception will precede a lecture from Kozuru, which begins at 6 p.m. in the Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium.

Kozuru casts rubber pieces from architectural forms and recombines them into vivid new assemblages.Kozuru's piece will be displayed in conversation with Song of the Bird by Isamu Noguchi. The event is free and open to the public.

Political Reporter Visit is Friday

Dante Chinni, co-author of the book "Our Patchwork Nation" and director of the Patchwork Nation Project, will visit the College of Journalism and Mass Communications on Jan. 28. He will discuss the Patchwork Nation Project with students in the college.

A public reception is 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. in Andersen Hall. Chinni's class appearances are closed to the public. His visit will be featured through Campus Voices, a public affairs service offered by the college. Campus Voices is featured on 5City-TV and 90.3 KRNU. more...

 

Math Conference Offers Sessions to Faculty, Staff and Students
Math Conference

The Nebraska Conference for Undergraduate Women in Mathematics is Jan. 28-30 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in downtown Lincoln. Registration for the conference is closed, however some sessions featuring undergraduate student presentations on Jan. 29 and 30 are open to faculty, staff and students.

The Jan. 29 sessions are: 8:10 to 9:45 a.m., 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and 4:35 to 5:10 p.m. The Jan. 30 sessions are: 8:15 to 9:10 a.m.; and 9:20 to 10:15 a.m. All other conference sessions, meals and events are for individuals who registered for the conference. more....

 

Soccer clinic HAWKS CHAMPIONSHIP CENTER, SAT 8AM
Free Soccer Clinic is Saturday

Husker Athletics will host a free soccer clinic for girls, grades 3 to 8, from 8 to 11 a.m., Jan. 29 at the Hawks Championship Center (northeast of Memorial Stadium). The clinic will be led by members of the Husker and Nebraska Wesleyan soccer teams.

No pre-registration is required. The first 450 participants will receive a free T-shirt and a Husker women's basketball ticket. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the clinic starting at 8:30 a.m.
