Tysmbal Collaboration Featured in PNAS, Science

Electronic devices like smart phones, computers and mp3 players have become central pieces of everyday life and consumers have grown accustomed to seeing new and improved models every time they turn around. But continuing that trend is dependent on one thing: the emergence of new technology.
"We are approaching fundamental limits for storing information due to basic physical principles that don't allow us to use the same methods and the same technology to continue this trend," said Evgeny Tsymbal, professor of physics and astronomy at UNL and director of the Materials Research Science and Engineering Center. more...

Danner to Lead E.N. Thompson Forum
The E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues continues with "Torture, Obama and Us: The Moral Costs of the War on Terror" presented by Mark Danner at 7 p.m., Feb. 23 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. The lecture is free and open to the public. Tickets are available at the Lied Center box office.
Danner is a writer and reporter who has written on politics and foreign affairs, focusing on war and conflict, for more than 25 years. He has covered Central America, Haiti, the Balkans, Iraq and the Middle East, among many other stories. Danner is a professor of journalism at the University of California, Berkeley, and James Clarke Chace Professor of Foreign Affairs, Politics and the Humanities at Bard College. more...

Dzombak at Water Seminar Series

David A. Dzombak, University Professor at Carnegie Mellon University, continues the UNL Water Center's spring seminar series with his presentation "Need and Challenge of Alternative Water Sources for Use in Electric Power Production" at 3:30 p.m., Feb. 23 in the Hardin Hall auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Dzombak is currently the faculty director for the Steinbrenner Institute for Environmental Education and Research, and the Co-Director of WaterQuest. He also holds the Walter J. Blenko Professorship of Environmental Engineering.
