The University Program Council presents Andrew Jenks from MTV's "World of Jenks" beginning 7:30 p.m., March 31 in the Nebraska Union Centennial Room. This event will be free for UNL Students with a valid NCard and $5 for public, faculty and staff.

As made famous by his hit MTV series, "World of Jenks," award-winning documentary filmmaker Andrew Jenks takes viewers on unforgettable journeys as he captures a wide range of voices and personal stories. Each week, Jenks immerses himself into a different person's world and reveals unique slices of American life, uncovering incredible stories and people along the way. His firsd two documentaries, "Room 335" and "The Zen of Bobby V," have both received critical acclaim, with the latter premiering at the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival. more...

Reforming Midwest Higher Education Event Live Online

On Thursday, March 31, The Chicago Council on Global Affairs will release a report, "A Master Plan for Higher Education in the Midwest: A Roadmap to the Future of the Nation's Heartland," at a program co-sponsored by the CIC.

Thanks to significant interest, anyone will be able to watch the event via live streaming video on the CIC website. The program will open at 6 p.m. CDT and will include the presentation of the paper, a panel discussion, and a question-and-answer session. more...

ACLU President to Discuss National Security Issues

Susan N. Herman

National security issues and their interplay with the court systems, such as surveillance, detainment of alleged terrorists in Guantanamo, and extraordinary rendition victims, will be the subject of the Winthrop and Frances Lane Foundation Lecture on March 31 at the University of Nebraska College of Law.

Susan N. Herman, president of the American Civil Liberties Union and professor at Brooklyn Law School, will present "How the Bush/Obama War on Terror Threatens Ordinary Americans, Constitutional Rights, and Democracy" at noon in the Hamann Auditorium in Ross McCollum Hall. Her lecture is based on her book, "Taking Liberties: The War on Terror and the Erosion of American Democracy," to be published in September by Oxford University Press. Douglas Futuyma, one of the world's leading evolutionary biologists, will present "Macroevolution and the Evolutionary Synthesis" at 3:30 p.m., in Love Library South room 102. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Futuyma is a distinguished professor of ecology and evolution at Stony Brook University in New York. His lecture is part of the the School of Biological Sciences seminar series. Futuyma's research focuses on speciation and the evolution of plant-insect interactions. more...

Wayne Hubert will present "Collaboration or Agitation? Efforts of the American Fisheries Society to Address Contemporary Environmental and Education Issues" at 11 a.m., March 31 in Hardin Hall room 901. His lecture was rescheduled after a Feb. 2 cancellation.

Hubert is the unit leader at the Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit.
