Tractor museum hosts 'Art and Ag' event July 30
The Lester F. Larsen Tractor Test and Power Museum and David City's Bone Creek Museum of Agrarian Art will host an "Art and Ag Farmers' Market," 4 to 8 p.m., July 30 in the historic Nebraska Tractor Test Laboratory on East Campus.
Corn competitions and demonstrations will be held along with corn education throughout the museum concourse in partnership with the Nebraska Corn Board, sponsor of the event. Visitors will receive free admission to the "Art and Ag" exhibition with a can of food or an ear of corn. Read more about this event on Today@UNL.
UNL policy specialist honored by ACE
Brad Lubben
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension public policy specialist Brad Lubben has been honored as Communicator of the Year by the Nebraska chapter of the Association of Communication Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Human Sciences. One nominator said of Lubben: "As a University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension policy specialist, Dr. Lubben is extremely knowledgeable in agricultural policy, which encompasses the federal farm bill, and what its farm programs mean to rural and urban Nebraskans."
In addition to his extensive knowledge about agricultural economics and trade, public policy and farm management, Lubben effectively communicates these often complex topics' importance to others. Read more about this honor on Today@UNL.
PBS to air NET documentary on Lied's 'loopdiver' project
Go behind the scenes as members of an award-winning international dance company struggle with inner turmoil and cope with the extreme physical and emotional demands of creating a new work. The NET Television performance documentary "loopdiver: The Journey of a Dance," will be offered nationally by PBS, airing at 9:30 p.m., July 31 on NET/HD.
The documentary follows Troika Ranch, a dance, theater and media performance company based in New York City and Berlin, Germany, as it comes to Lincoln to create the experimental dance piece "loopdiver." The multimedia dance was commissioned by the Lied Center for Performing Arts and debuted at UNL's Johnny Carson Theater on Oct. 15, 2009. Read more about this documentary on Today@UNL.
Schneider wins ITG Award of Merit
Dennis Schneider
Dennis Schneider, professor emeritus of trumpet, has been selected to receive the International Trumpet Guild's Award of Merit for 2012. He will receive the honor at the ITG Conference at Columbus State University in Georgia in May. The ITG Award of Merit is given to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the art of trumpet playing through performance, teaching, publishing, research, composition and/or support of the goals of the ITG.
"Denny Schneider was a huge force in trumpet pedagogy regionally and nationally throughout his career in the UNL School of Music," said John Richmond, director of the UNL School of Music. "It is a great joy, but not a surprise, that the world's premier organization for professional trumpeters—the International Trumpet Guild— would recognize his career of distinguished accomplishments.
