Time Warner moving Big Ten Network on standard tier
Time Warner Cable and BTN announced July 25 that the network will be available on the company's standard service tier for customers in Nebraska beginning Aug. 23. Every Husker regular season football game will be available live on Time Warner Cable during the team's inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference.
In addition to Husker football games, fans will also be able to watch many other Nebraska sporting events, including men's and women's basketball, volleyball, baseball, Olympic sports and more. Starting Aug. 23, BTN will be available on channel 24. BTN is currently available to digital customers on channel 333 and in HD on channel 1333, and will remain on those channels going forward. In addition to the primary network feed, two extra football game channels will also be available. BTN Extra 1 will air on 1334 and BTN Extra 2 will air on 1335. These channels are primarily used during football season when games air simultaneously to ensure all conference games are available to customers in their entirety. Temporary access road near stadium closing July 26
The City of Lincoln's Arena Roads project, the installation of two roundabouts on Salt Creek Roadway, has progressed to the next stage of the project that will further limit access to Stadium Drive.
On May 9, the city began construction on the project closing Salt Creek Roadway and Stadium Drive to through traffic. A local temporary access road north of Memorial Stadium allowed access to Stadium Drive during the beginning of the project. On July 26 at 9 a.m. the temporary access road that connected Salt Creek Roadway to Stadium Drive will be closed for the final three weeks of the project. Because of the closure, the only accessible entrance to Stadium Drive is through North 10th Street and T Street. Read more about this closing on Today@UNL.
Movies on the Green continues with "What a Way to Go!"
Join us for a selection of comedies in this year's Movies on the Green, Thursdays July 14 - Aug. 18. All of the screenings are presented on the grass in front of Kimball Recital Hall, located at 12th and R Streets. Screenings are free and open to the public and begin at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.). Concessions will be available for purchase at the event.
This week, in "What A Way to Go!," Shirley MacLaine stars as Louisa, a widow worth $200 million, who is convinced her fortune is cursed. A trip to a psychiatrist reveals a past of unfortunate marriages to diverse men—including a rich playboy (Dean Martin) and an expatriate artist (Paul Newman) — that supports her theory that money kills. This lavish, big budget comedy features several amusing film parodies and the final screen appearance of comic actress Margaret Dumont. Also starring Robert Mitchum, Gene Kelly, Bob Cummings, and Dick Van Dyke.
Nebraska Transportation Center helps with diesel emissions reduction
The Nebraska Transportation Center has completed work under a $1 million grant to help retrofit commercial trucks with auxiliary power units, known as APUs, reducing emissions and saving thousands of gallons of diesel fuel per year.
The center reported 273 trucks were retrofitted. Fleet owners paid 40 percent of the equipment and installation costs, while grant funds covered the remaining costs. According to Steve Phillips, senior vice president of operations for Werner Enterprises, each APU saves over 300 gallons of diesel fuel per year as a result of the retrofit. Funding for the project was provided in 2009 through the Environmental Protection Agency's National Clean Diesel Funding Assistance Program from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. 2011 Prairie Schooner Book Prize winners announced
The Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Fiction is awarded to Karen Brown for "Leaf House," and the Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Poetry is awarded to Susan Blackwell Ramsey for "A Mind Like This." Each winner receives $3,000 and publication by the University of Nebraska Press.
Prairie Schooner at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln has announced the winners for its annual awards for books of short fiction and poetry. The winners were chosen from almost 1,000 submissions from around the world. Read more about Prairie Schooner winners on Today@UNL.
Resonators are final Fountain Frolics music
UPC presents Fountain Frolics, a Free Outdoor Concert Series Thursdays, noon to 1 p.m. at the North Entrance of Nebraska Union, through July 28. The Resonators is the final program; lunch offered by UNL Dairy Store.
With Sharon Kreimer, Dell Darly, Russ Zierke, Randy Barger and David Morris, The Resonators R&B sounds combine with roots rock and blues.
