Zeng honored for achievements in chemistry
Chemistry professor Xiao Cheng Zeng has been selected for an honor recognizing outstanding achievements in chemistry.
Zeng, Ameritas Distinguished University Professor of chemistry, has been named the 2011 recipient of the Midwest Award from the American Chemical Society's St. Louis section. The honor, given annually, recognizes a scientist who has made "meritorious contributions to the advancement of pure or applied chemistry, chemical education, and the profession of chemistry." 'Flippin Project' unveiling is Friday
At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, George Flippin was a large man for his day. That, along with his hard-running style, helped him to become one of the University of Nebraska's very first football stars. Watch a video about the Flippin Project.
On Sept. 16, UNL will honor Flippin's legacy with the unveiling of a new art project bearing his likeness at the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center. The event begins at 7:15 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Read more about the unveiling on Today@UNL

Kim Blair
Alum Kim Blair will discuss "Disciplines of Technology Development and Product Design," at 3 p.m., Sept. 16 in Jorgensen Hall, room 110. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Blair, who founded the sports innovation program at MIT, received his bachelor's degrees in mechanical engineering and psychology from UNL. He has also trained with NASA. Read more about this lecture on Today@UNL

Nanoscience facility to be named for Voelte, Keegan
College of Engineering alumnus Don Voelte and his wife, Nancy Keegan, chair of the University of Nebraska Foundation's board of directors, have given a $5 million campaign gift to UNL. In recognition of their gift, UNL's Nanoscience Metrology Facility will be named in their honor.
The nanoscience center is on the corner of 16th and W Streets and adjoins Jorgensen Hall, home of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. In addition to the Voelte-Keegan gift, a $6.9 million competitive federal grant, and a university commitment now fully funds this $13.9 million building. Read more about the naming on Today@UNL.

'Sunday Scientist' explores plant science

The NU State Museum's Sunday with a Scientist program will explore plant science, 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., Sept. 18 at Morrill Hall. The event, "Feeding the World in the 21st Century," will feature researchers from the UNL Center for Plant Science Innovation.
