Erickson to discuss research on beef production

Galen Erickson
Galen Erickson, beef feedlot Extension specialist and professor in Animal Science, will present "Going Green: Impact of Modern Beef Production on the Environment" at 3:30 p.m. in the Hardin Hall Auditorium on East Campus.
Erickson finds that the U.S. beef production system is actually advantageous in terms of water quality, energy utilization, and greenhouse gas emissions. He also acknowledges environmental challenges within the system, and will review current research to address ammonia emissions. Read more about this discussion on Today@UNL

Biotech/Life Sciences seminar features Big Ten's Li

Wen-Hsiung Li
Wen-Hsiung Li, a professor of ecology and evolution at the University of Chicago, will deliver a Biotechnology/Life Sciences Seminar lecture at 4 p.m., in the Beadle Center, room E103. The seminar series, organized by UNL's James Van Etten, features scientists from the Big Ten Conference who are also members of the National Academy of Sciences.
Li's lecture, "Epigenetic Factors in the Evolution of Gene Regulation," will examine chromatin and chromatin modifications. He will present a study on how chromatin structure can be stabilized in the midst of genetic and environmental change. Read more about this lecture on Today@UNL

Vote to choose Nebraska-Iowa Trophy
UNL's Innocents Society and the President's Leadership Society of the University of Iowa are asking Nebraskans and Iowans to help select a trophy for the annual student exchange following the Nebraska-Iowa football game.
The new exchange is between the two societies, which represent the student bodies of the two Big Ten universities. The trophy exchange will occur at the annual Iowa-Nebraska post-Thanksgiving football game, this year scheduled for Nov. 25. Read more about the contest on Today@UNL.

Theatrix opens season with 'Killer Joe'
Theatrix, the student-operated theater organization under the auspices of the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, introduces its 2011-2012 "Season of Fire" with award-winning playwright Tracy Letts' play, "Killer Joe."
Killer Joe will run Sept. 28 through Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Lab Theatre, third floor of the Temple Building, 12th and R St. This show is for mature audiences only, containing both violent and sexual content. Individual show tickets are $6 via credit card (some user fees may be applied) on the UNL Theatre Tickets website or at the door the evening of the events (subject to availability).
