Empowerment Forum

Diversity forum registration due by Jan. 20

The nomination and registration process for the 2012 Empowerment Forum will continue through Jan. 20. The Empowerment Forum is open to UNL students, faculty and staff who have an interest in discussing the challenges we face in dealing with diversity issues.

Registration is available at the Student Affairs website. The 2012 Empowerment Forum is Jan. 27 in the Nebraska Union. For more information, click the link below or contact Sammi Mosier at smosier2@unl.edu.

Outlook orientation sessions open today

Orientation sessions for UNL's new email system, Outlook 2010, begin Jan. 12. The first session is 11 a.m. to noon, in the Nebraska Union (room posted). The orientations are free and open to all faculty and staff.

Information provided about the email system includes learning basic tasks, how to use the calendar and setting up contacts. The presentation also includes information on how to use "Lync" for instant messaging. A question and answer session follows. Read more about this session in Today@UNL.

Exhibitions explore Great Plains landscapes

The Great Plains Art Museum's permanent collection exhibition "Transported with Wonder" opened earlier this month. The exhibit runs concurrently with "Marking the Prairie Sublime: Paintings and Prints by Jonathan Goodding." "Transported with Wonder" features Great Plains landscapes.

"There is often a sense of grandeur — visually intense and emotionally powerful — in portrayals of Great Plains landscapes," said Amber Mohr, curator of the museum. "During the time of westward expansion, artists were commissioned to convey a temptation to bountiful promise — broad expanses of land, plentiful game and agricultural potential. Bowling League

Join the Student Bowling League by today

Lanes 'N Games in the Nebraska East Union is the site for the annual UNL Student Bowling League at 5:30 p.m. each Thursday for eight weeks Jan. 19-Mar. 8.

Cost is $150 for a team of five and covers all eight weeks of bowling. Sign up by Jan. 12. Food will be provided each night and team members will receive a T-shirt. Spots are limited. Register by contacting the Student Involvement East office at 402-472-1780 or sieast@unlnotes.unl.edu

 

The Kitchen

Rescheduled screening of 'The Kitchen' shows Jan. 12, 15

Broadcast from the stage of the National Theatre, "The Kitchen" is a darkly funny and furious examination of the chaos in a 1950s London restaurant kitchen. "The Kitchen" shows at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center at 7 p.m., Jan. 12, with an encore screening 3 p.m., Jan. 15.
