31 students gather 1,200 pounds of recyclables to 'Go Green for Big Red'

While more than 90,000 fans were watching or tailgating in and around Memorial Stadium during the Sept. 1 Huskers home football game against Southern Mississippi, volunteers were making sure all the tailgaters recycled. After contributing more than 70 hours for the effort Go Green for Big Red, the 31 volunteers -- all students -- were able to save some 1,200 pounds of recyclables (plastic, aluminum and bottles) from entering the landfill.
The effort focused on offering tailgaters free green bags at different parking lots and collecting them when full. Recycling bins were also located next to waste containers along high-traffic pedestrian walkways leading to Memorial Stadium. Recycling Enterprises collected the recyclables from the parking lots. B&R Stores donated lunch to the volunteers. Read more about this effort in Today@UNL.

Activities abound for Academic Integrity Week
Academic integrity plays a major role in defining who we are as a university. As students and scholars, our work rests on the foundational belief that we can trust the work others have done. We also trust the other students and faculty members we work with on a daily basis.
Because we work together with integrity, we are able to advance knowledge here at the university and beyond. Academic Integrity Week runs Sept. 10-14 and aims to foster honesty both inside the classroom and beyond the university's walls. Everyone, from freshmen to the most senior faculty members and administrators, is invited to participate in the dialogue. See a full list of Academic Integrity Week events in Today@UNL.

UNL study of U.S. economists finds vast gender gap on policy views

Is there a "gender gap" in the views of professional economists? A new national study finds that while most economists agree on core economic concepts, values and methods, they differ along gender lines in their views on important economic policy.
The study – believed to be the first systematic analysis of male and female economists' views on a wide variety of policy issues – surveyed hundreds of members of the American Economic Association. The research team found that despite having similar training and adherence to core economic principles and methodology, male and female economists hold different opinions on particular current economic issues and specific economic policies including educational vouchers, health insurance and policies toward labor standards.
