First master plan open house is today

The first of two open house sessions to allow faculty, staff and students to offer input into an update of UNL's master physical plan and a new landscape master plan is 3 to 6 p.m., today in the Nebraska Union.

The second open house is noon to 2 p.m., Sept. 13 in the East Union. The sessions are open to the public. Jennifer Dam, assistant director of campus planning and space management, said the open houses are the first opportunity for the entire campus community to provide input into the master plans. Register to vote

Not a registered voter? Stop by the Nebraska Union Plaza on Sept. 12, 11 a.m.-1 p.m to register. The application process is quick and easy. Occupy the Registration Booth so you can Occupy the Voter's Booth in this year's presidential election.

The event is sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta and Kappa Alpha Psi.

 

Registration open for Oct. 3 DoD funding workshop

Faculty seeking ideas to successfully compete for U.S. Department of Defense funding can get information at an Oct. 3 workshop, "Obtaining Research Funding from the Department of Defense." Sponsored by the Office of Research and Economic Development, the workshop will be from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Nebraska Union Heritage Room, with lunch included. Advance registration is required and is available online.

Increasing defense funding is one of UNL's goals for achieving research and economic development growth plans. Read more about this workshop in Today@UNL.

UPC presents 'MOOZ-lum' screening, filmmaker Qasim Basir

The University Program Council is proud to bring MOOZ-lum, a groundbreaking film examining life as a Muslim in a post 9/11 world, to UNL. A screening of the film and a discussion with director Qasim Basir will take place Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. Admission is free for UNL students with a valid NCard and is $5 for faculty, staff, and the public.

MOOZ-lum, which stars Danny Glover, Nia Long, Evan Ross, Roger Guenveur Smith, Summer Bishil and Dorian Missick. The coming-of-age tale of a young Muslim man going to college in September of 2001 opened theatrically in February 2011 and has received critical acclaim.

State of the University Address

University issuing RFP for student health center

In his Sept. 11 State of the University Address, Chancellor Harvey Perlman announced a process to seek proposals for UNL's student health center, seeking a provider to take responsibility for student health as early as this spring.

UNL launches Nebraska App

UNL has launched the Nebraska App, a suite of mobile applications that makes essential university resources available on mobile devices. Students can check grades, access course content and browse the course catalog. They can access the public directory and get in touch instantly, keep tabs on Husker sports, find places on the campus map, stay informed with the latest campus news, watch videos, and even listen to podcasts of popular lectures in iTunesU.
