Master plans to be presented in open houses, exhibition

Representatives from Sasaki Associates will present updated versions of the UNL Campus and Landscape Master Plans during open house sessions on Jan. 22 and 23. The UNL master plan process will also be featured in a College of Architecture exhibition opening Jan. 22.

The master plan open houses are Jan. 22 in the Nebraska Union Heritage Room and Jan. 23 in the East Union Great Plains Room. The open house sessions, which are free and open to the public, are 3 to 5 p.m. both days. Read more about these open houses in Today@UNL.

 

Day of Service

Volunteers sought for Jan. 23 MLK day of service

UNL is holding a day of community service Jan. 23 to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Various volunteer activities around Lincoln will be offered. Groups and individuals are encouraged to participate in the event.

Early registration for "MLK Day of Service — Leading the Dream" is available via email. Registration will also be offered at 2 p.m. Jan. 23 at the first-floor desk in the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center. 'Thinkers & Tinkerers' series to explore venture capital

The NUtech Ventures "Thinkers & Tinkerers" series continues Jan. 22 with a 4 p.m. presentation by Mark Crawford, chief executive officer for Invest Nebraska. Crawford will discuss venture capital: what it is, when is it appropriate and how to raise it.

The talk, "Securing VC Investment and What Diligence to Expect," is in the Kauffman Center and open to faculty, staff and students. Refreshments will be provided. The presentation will be recorded and made available online at http://go.unl.edu/eyf.

 

Day of Service

Photo clubs collaborate, create exhibition

In their first collaboration, UNL's Fine Art Photo Club and Metropolitan Community College of Omaha's Metro Photo Club present "PhotoClub2," an exhibition of 56 photographs from the student photo clubs from both institutions.

The exhibition is on display Jan. 22-Feb. 15 at the Eisentrager•Howard Gallery in Richards Hall. The exhibit is a primary feature of Lincoln PhotoFest during the month of February. A reception will be held on First Friday, 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 1, in the gallery. Both the gallery and reception have free admission and are open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Read more about this exhibit in Today@UNL.

Church bombing survivors to lead MLK Week lecture

Three sisters who survived the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Ala., in 1963 will be among the keynote speakers at the Chancellor's Program on Jan. 22 during MLK Week, UNL's observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

Sarah Collins-Rudoph, Janie Collins-Simpkins and Junie Collins-Williams will be featured, along with political scientist, writer and speaker Tracy Snipe of Wright State University in the program beginning at 5 p.m. in the auditorium of the Nebraska Union. Three online programs among U.S. News rankings

Three of UNL's online programs are among the top 200 of their respective categories in the U.S. News 2013 Best Online Education Program rankings.

The online Masters of Business Administration program offered in the College of Business Administration ranked 17 out of 148 programs. The program is second among Big Ten universities. Other UNL programs among the top 200 surveyed by U.S. News are: online graduate education, ranked 110th; and online bachelor's programs, ranked 135th. Read more about these rankings in Today@UNL.

 

Husker Volleyball

Huskers accepting volleyball season ticket applications from faculty, staff

Husker athletics is accepting faculty and staff applications for 2013 volleyball season tickets.

Full-time faculty and staff are eligible to apply for two season tickets. A non-refundable deposit of $50 ($25 per season ticket, to be applied to ticket cost) is required. If tickets become available, applicants will be prioritized according to the university's season ticket priority system. Deposits will be refunded if demand exceeds supply. responsive design

The Internet and Interactive Media group of University Communications and Information Services has concluded the first phase in its effort to provide full support to all devices - desktops, laptops, smartphones and tablets - by implementing a suite of web technologies collectively known as 'responsive design.' This week, the internal and external homepages were re-launched as 'responsive' designs.

You can see the effects of responsive design in your desktop browser by simply re-sizing your browser window (the page will reformat as the window is narrowed), or by viewing on your tablet or smartphone. Please use the 'feedback' links at the bottom of the page if you would like to let us know of any issues. Thank you.
