Deadline for Gilman Scholarship is Friday
The deadline for students to register for the Gilman International Scholarship is Feb. 15. The online application is due March 5. The scholarship, supported by the U.S. Department of State, helps fund study abroad opportunities.
Samantha Marcoux, a global studies major, is one UNL student who has benefited from the Gilman scholarship. She received an award and studied in Seoul, South Korea, for the 2011-2012 academic year. Read more about this deadline in Today@UNL.

Lecture to feature federal circuit court judge
U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Chief Judge Randall R. Rader will deliver the Cline Williams Jurist-In-Residence Lecture at noon in the Hamann Auditorium at the University of Nebraska College of Law.
The lecture, "Patents, Copyrights, Trademarks — Promoting the Progress of Science or Impeding It?" is free and open to the public. Read more about this talk in Today@UNL.

Jackie Allen Trio to play Valentine's Day concert
The Jackie Allen Trio will perform a Valentine's Day jazz concert 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Sheldon Museum of Art's Great Hall. Admission includes dessert and a glass of champagne.
Tickets for the "Heartbeat" performance are $25 for members of the Sheldon Art Association, and $30 for nonmembers. Read more about this concert in Today@UNL.
Research Council seeks grant proposals
The UNL Research Council is accepting grant proposals for visiting scholars, symposia and distinguished lecturers through March 18. This is a competitive grant program for events planned from July 1 to Dec. 31. Compete details are available at the Research and Economic Development website.
Applications must be submitted through NUgrant, UNL's online grants management system. The application form, which features electronic approval and routing, is accessible through NUgrant under the "Internal Competitions" heading on the main page. Paper applications are not accepted.

Thompson earns national nursing honor
Kim Thompson, a registered nurse at the University Health Center, was awarded the Ollie B. Moten Award by the American College Health Association.
The award commemorates the work of Ollie B. Moten, RN, past chairwoman of the Nursing Section of ACHA and former director of the Student Health Center at Texas Southern University in Houston. The award, established in 1992, honors ACHA members who have made a significant impact on the institution of higher education in which they work, regardless of whether the individuals have been active beyond their institutions. HIVE hosts creative contest
HIVE is hosting an advertising design competition, Saturday, February 16, 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in ARCH Hall. Graphic and web designers, videomakers and writers will develop creative campaigns for real clients. Prizes will be awarded. Students $10/Non-students $20, including meals.
