Hillestad exhibit features 'Woven Art of Indonesia'
The woven art of Indonesia, with particular attention given to the ikats woven on the archipelago, is the subject of "Woven Art of Indonesia: Makers, Meaning and Significance," a new exhibit at UNL's Robert Hillestad Textile Gallery.
Curated by Barabra Rieke Turner, the exhibit is open through April 5. Read more about this exhibit in Today@UNL.
Study links kids' neighborhoods with survival expectations

What do you want to be when you grow up?
It's a common question asked of children, and they can come up with all sorts of answers: A doctor. A firefighter. A teacher. Kids think about their futures as they emulate the adults around them.
But about 15 percent of children — most of whom live in impoverished neighborhoods — in a new national study do not expect to live to age 35. For those children, the research shows, it's often not "when I grow up." Instead, they think in terms of "if I grow up." The study, by UNL sociologist Tara Warner and Bowling Green State University sociologist Raymond Swisher, added to mounting evidence suggesting neighborhoods matter in adolescent and young adult survival expectations. Lecture series on art and the mind continues today
Jonathan Fineberg, the University of Nebraska's Visiting Presidential Professor, continues his 2012-13 lecture series on art and the mind. The lecture — the third in a four-part series — will take place at 5:30 p.m. in UNL's Sheldon Museum of Art. The talk is free and open to the public and will be followed by a reception.
Fineberg's lecture series is titled "The Language of the Enigmatic Object: Modern Art at the Border of Mind and Brain." The title has evolved as Fineberg has written the lectures; part of his professorship involves giving serious thought to how visual thinking works and how works of art serve society, and this has led to the revision.
