Burnfield to direct Nebraska Athletics Performance Lab

Judith Burnfield has been named director of the Nebraska Athletics Performance Lab. She holds a doctorate in biokinesilogy from the University of Southern California.

The Athletics Performance Lab will be housed in East Stadium following the summer 2013 completion of the Memorial Stadium expansion. The lab will include approximately 20,000 square feet of dedicated research space on the north half of the East Stadium addition. The lab is being designed to allow Nebraska Athletics to team with private sector and campus partners on innovative health and performance research. Georgia researcher to lead School of Natural Resources

John P. Carroll

A professor of wildlife ecology and management at the University of Georgia will be the new head of UNL's School of Natural Resources. John P. Carroll will assume the new position this summer.

Carroll currently is professor in the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at Georgia, where he's been since 1998. Previously, he worked at the Game Conservancy Trust in England, at the California University of Pennsylvania, the University of North Dakota and the University of Minnesota/Crookston. Plowman is keynote for 'Entrepreneuring Days'

Donde Plowman

Donde Plowman, dean for the College of Business Administration, is the keynote speaker for UNL's inaugural "Entrepreneuring Days@UNL." The three-day conference opened March 11. All events are at the Embassy Suites, 1040 P St.

Plowman's lecture, "Negotiating to Get What You Want," is at noon. Registration is required to receive a lunch. The event is focused on building start-up people for new and established enterprises. Read more about EntrepreneuringDays@UNL in Today@UNL.

Free screening of 'Not My Life'

Not My Life

A free screening of the film "Not My Life" is at 4 p.m. in the Nebraska Union Auditorium. The event is organized by Amnesty International and the Global Unification/UNICEF Campus Initiative Club.

"Not My Life" is a film about modern day slavery. The film is written, directed and produced by Academy Award-nominee Robert Bilheimer. "Not My Life" is the first film to comprehensively depict the cruel and dehumanizing practices of global human trafficking and modern slavery.

Alumna receives Fulbright for Indonesia study

Recent UNL graduate Lindsay Graef has been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to go to Indonesia, where she will be an English teaching assistant. Graef, who majored in studio art at UNL, will be leaving her hometown of Lincoln for nine months this fall. Graef's award is the first announced Fulbright at UNL in 2013.

The Fulbright Program, established in 1946 and funded by the U.S. Department of State, is designed to foster understanding between the United States and other countries. The U.S. Student Fulbright program gives recent graduates, graduate students and young professionals the opportunity to conduct research, study or teach in one of 155 countries. About 8,000 grants are awarded each year and about 1,600 of those grants are awarded to U.S. students. Read more about this Fulbright in Today@UNL.

 

Dr. Jenna Pieper Wins Prestigious Dissertation Award

Dr. Jenna Pieper, assistant professor of management, won the prestigious Ralph Alexander Dissertation Award presented by the Academy of Management. The award is only presented when a dissertation is deemed to have comprehensively addressed a significant problem in the human resources field.

Pieper's dissertation studied the characteristics of the job referrer when trying to predict referral hire performances and the likelihood of the hire leaving the organization. "I looked at characteristics such as if the referrer was a high performing employee, were they more likely to refer someone who was also a high performer," Pieper said. Interdisciplinary Arts Symposium features dance company

The Interdisciplinary Arts Symposium at the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts celebrates its fourth season this spring with an exploration of "The Ancient World Seen Through Modern Eyes." The symposium will examine how the performing arts have returned consistently to classical antiquity and ancient mythologies to make sense of the contemporary.

The symposium includes a live performance of Lori Belilove and the Isadora Duncan Dance Co., 7:30 p.m. at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. The company will perform "Dances Inspired by Greek Antiquity," a reconstruction of famed choreographer Isadora Duncan's work. Read more about this Symposium in Today@UNL.
