CASNR Week opens with 5K run, bull fry

There's No Horizon for a Husker" is the theme for this year's celebration of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

Students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members are all invited to join the annual celebration, said Stephanie Smolek, a senior agricultural journalism and animal science major from Battle Creek and the chair of publicity for the CASNR Week Program Council. Harjo to perform free concert at Sheldon

Joy Harjo, an acclaimed Moscogee (Creek) author, musician and playwright, will give a free concert April 12 at the Sheldon Museum of Art. The preshow begins at 6:15 p.m. with the concert to follow at 7 p.m. A book and CD signing will be immediately following the show.

The saxophonist from Tulsa, Okla., will play a number of songs from her albums with accompanist and guitarist Larry Mitchell. Harjo has released four award-winning CDs of original music. In 2009, she won a Native American Music Award for best female artist. Read more about this performance in Today@UNL.

Handmade books on display in Love Library North

The 4th biennial Heart & Hands Juried Book Arts Exhibition for Students is now on display through May 31 on the second floor study area in Love Library North.

More than 80 books from 23 states and Canada were juried by UNL Cather Professor of Art Karen Kunc and guest juror Barb Tetenbaum, book arts department head at Oregon College of Art & Craft.

Larson museum to host inaugural tractor show

In conjunction with CASNR Week, the Larsen Tractor Test and Power Museum will host an open house and an inaugural tractor show on April 13.

The open house will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the tractor show will take place on the mall south of Chase Hall on UNL's East Campus. Participants are welcome to this free event. Read more about this show in Today@UNL.

University Theatre completes spring semester season with Shakespeare

University Theatre, the academic-year production program at UNL, will close its 2012-13 season with a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew." Productions at at 7:30 p.m. on April 11, 12, 13 and 17, 18, 19 and 20, and 2 p.m. April 21 in Howell Theatre, on the first floor of the Temple Building at 12th and R streets.

Tickets are available at the Lied Center Ticket Office at 301 N. 12th St. or 402-472-4747 or 800-432-3231 from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets are $16, $14 for faculty,staff and senior citizens and $10 for students with valid ID. Read more about this production in Today@UNL.

Anderson, activities highlight 100th E-Week Open House on April 12

The UNL College of Engineering will host its annual free Open House 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 12 at Othmer Hall, 17th and Vine streets.

Students and faculty will show off engineering excitement to hundreds of guests, including local school groups. At 10:30 a.m., Nebraska astronaut Clay Anderson speaks in Othmer Hall. Read more about the E-Week Open House in Today@UNL.

 

J Days

Journalism college to honor alumni, leader during J Days

Five people will be recognized during the annual J Days awards lunch April 12 at the College of Journalism and Mass Communications. The college will present the Awards of Excellence to four alumni and partner with the Nebraska Broadcasters Association to present the Broadcast Pioneer Award.

During a luncheon for the honorees, the college will present Alumni Awards of Excellence to Jenny Bohuslavsky, Robin Fitzgerald, Kristine Johnson and Paula Lavigne. The Nebraska Broadcast Pioneer Award will be presented to John C. Mitchell. Read more about these honors in Today@UNL.
