Class grows from time-lapse project

Students in a course at UNL are learning that a story does not have to be words on a page. Digital Imaging and Storytelling offers students an opportunity to work with high quality photography equipment to document the world around them. With time-lapse photography and video, the students developed their ability to tell stories visually.

Peter Stegen, a senior fisheries and wildlife major from Austin, Minn., focused on decomposition. Stegen said while most people don't like to think about death and decomposition, he has always been fascinated by the subject. Read more about this class in Today@UNL.

Gift sets Johnny Carson Theater renovation

UNL's Johnny Carson Theater is getting a $571,500 facelift. The renovation, made possible with a gift from the John W. Carson Foundation, was announced April 26. The project will include a complete redesign of the theater's entrance and lobby and a new performance floor.

At the gift announcement, Chancellor Harvey Perlman said UNL is again honored to receive support from the foundation of the late Johnny Carson, who proudly grew up in Nebraska and graduated from the university. Read more about this gift in Today@UNL.

Quilt museum earns accreditation

The International Quilt Study Center and Museum has achieved accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums, the highest national recognition for a museum. Accreditation signifies excellence to the museum community, to governments, funders, outside agencies and to the museum-going public.

AAM accreditation is the field's primary vehicle for quality assurance, self-regulation and public accountability, and earns national recognition for a museum for its commitment to excellence in all that it does: governance, collections stewardship, public programs, financial stability, high professional standards and continued institutional improvement. Commencement

UNL plans for possible inclement weather at commencement

Inclement weather is a possibility in Lincoln on May 3-4, the same dates that UNL has scheduled outdoor commencement exercises at Memorial Stadium. Ceremonies are scheduled for 4 p.m. May 3 for graduate and doctoral candidates and 9:30 a.m. May 4 for undergraduates.

Every reasonable effort will be made to hold commencement as planned. However, if the weather is severe enough — heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, a tornado watch or tornado warning — to require a delay in the ceremony's start, instructions will be announced at Memorial Stadium and posted on the UNL website, on Twitter (@UNLNews and @UNLincoln), on Facebook, and with local media outlets.
