
The Summer Health Professions Education Program (SHPEP) is a free, nationwide summer enrichment experience designed for first- and second-year college students exploring careers in medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, optometry, public health, physical therapy, and more.
Through SHPEP, students gain academic support, clinical exposure, career development, and mentorship—all while connecting with peers and professionals who share their passion for healthcare. Each of the 11 program sites across the U.S. offers unique opportunities to grow, learn, and lead.
Who Can Apply:
- First-, second-, or (at some sites) junior-year students with fewer than 90 earned credits (some limited to 60), a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or DACA status.
What You’ll Gain:
- Academic enrichment in science and quantitative skills
- Clinical experiences, simulations, and professional mentorship
- Admissions prep, career planning, and financial literacy workshops
- Free housing, meals, stipend, and travel support (at many sites)
