Adam Grant, Wharton School of Business expert and author of Give and Take, tells us that being a Giver can not only make you the most successful person in the office, it can make you happier in life. Givers succeed because they have stronger networks and they inspire highly collaborative teams. Learn the benefits of being a Giver rather than a Matcher or a Taker, identify your own Giver Super Powers, and learn how to avoid Giver burnout. Participants will experience the simple Giver’s tool – the Five Minute Favor – by participating in a live Reciprocity Ring.

--Double Power Hour: Dine and Dialogue & Ouch! That Stereotype Hurts

Using cards developed for use in the Dine, Dialogue & Pass It On program, this brown bag session will focus on structured dialogues about race, diversity and inclusion. Participants will gain experience with engaging in conversation on difficult topics in a safe space so they can do so with greater ease in the larger community.

Ouch! That Stereotype Hurts presented by Rachel Wesley, Academic Adviser, College of Business, UNL
This workshop, from the Diversity & Inclusion Center, helps participants understand the impact of stereotypes and biased statements; explore the reasons we remain silent when bias and stereotypes are present; and give participants tools for speaking up without blame or guilt.

This discussion session will focus on Taming Your Gremlin: A Surprisingly Simple Method for Getting out of Your Own Way, by Rick Carson. Participants will purchase and read the book before the meeting. During the discussion, we’ll explore Carson’s techniques for seeing between the natural you and the “monster of your mind;” using the power of noticing and considering options; and six keys to maintaining emotional balance when things feel chaotic. These methods offer essential steps to becoming free from self-defeating behaviors and beliefs.
