Faculty-Led Education Abroad Program Applications Now Open

The Education Abroad Office is excited to announce the portfolio of summer 2021 faculty-led programs.While the university is actively monitoring the ongoing conditions related to the COVID-19 pandemic,there is cautious optimism about the viability of education abroad in summer 2021.

Faculty-led programs are being offered in over 20 countries and see the return of several long-running programs, as well as the addition of new programs. The Education Abroad Office is excited to collaborate for the first time with the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts on a new program titled, “Story Abroad: Speculative Fiction in London.”

Returning programs include the annual language programs in Berlin,Germany, Bilbao, Spain, and Angers, France,from the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures; Zambia & Ethiopia: Food Security, Health, and Nutrition, from the College of Education and Human Sciences;and the long-standing Nebraska at Oxford program from the College of Business. The Education Abroad team is working alongside the Director of Global Safety and Security to prepare for a safe and healthy experience for all participants amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.They have developed an FAQ on Education Abroad & COVID-19to help students understand what to expect as they apply and prepare for an experience abroad, and what to do in the event of a program cancellation.

Program applications are now open in MyWorld and will be due March 1(note: some programs have earlier deadlines). Students can also apply for Education Abroad scholarships to use on faculty-led programs. Summer education abroad scholarship applications will open in November and will be due February 1.

Students can schedule a virtual advising appointment with an Education Abroad Coordinator to discuss program options, application process and timeline, scholarships and budgeting, health and safety concerns, and more. The “Huskers Abroad 101” workshop is a great starting place for students who are exploring their options and is now being offered over Zoom three days per week. From food production to economics, there are a wide variety of academic fields to choose from with every college offering their own unique programs.
