The return of fall also means the return of flu season, and with the added risks of the COVID-19 pandemic, it is incredibly important to make sure students are protected from this year’s influenza virus. This is why the University Health Center is once again providing free flu shots to students.

Students can get their free flu shot one of two ways:
1. Make an appointment at the health center – Flu shot appointments are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students can call 402-472-5000 to schedule. For the safety of patients and staff, we require them to schedule an appointment in advance of their visit. Walk-ins will not be allowed this year.
2. Register to attend an October student flu shot clinic – City Campus clinics are offered every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in October, beginning Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. in the Campus Recreation Center. The East Campus clinic will be held Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Nebraska East Union. Students must pre-register to attend a student flu shot clinic using this link.

Students need to bring their NCard and a completed 2020-21 flu shot form to the student flu shot clinic.

Parental permission is required for students who are 18 or younger to receive their flu shot. Health center staff can call a parent or guardian at check in or, if they are 18 years old, they may bring a completed Power of Attorney form with them to their appointment. If they already have a Power of Attorney form on file at the health center, there is no need to submit a duplicate form. Power of Attorney forms are not valid for 17-year-olds; the health center staff must call a parent or guardian for permission to give these students a flu shot at the time of check in.

Flu Shots for Staff
If you are working on campus, for your convenience, flu shots are available by appointment at the University Health Center during regular business hours. For your safety, please schedule an appointment in advance of your visit by calling 402-472-5000. At this time, the health center is not offering the high dose (65+) flu vaccine.

Flu shots given at the University Health Center have a charge for staff, but are eligible to be submitted through insurance. Most insurance plans cover flu shots at 100%. However, those who do not wish to utilize insurance can pay for the treatment on site.
