The University of Nebraska-Lincoln has announced several policy changes to enhance equitable awarding of academic credit for students who transfer to UNL. The following policy changes are now in effect and will be published in the Fall 2024 catalog:
Students admitted to UNL with a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution will have fulfilled UNL's general education requirements. Such students must still complete any general education requirements specified within their specific program of study, and any required prerequisites or other requirements stated in UNL's Undergraduate Catalog.
Students admitted to UNL with an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree from a regionally accredited institution will have fulfilled UNL's lower-division general education requirements. Such students must still complete any upper-division general education requirements (e.g. ACE 10), general education requirements within their specific program of study, and any required prerequisites or other requirements stated in UNL's Undergraduate Catalog.
Students with military service will be awarded 1 credit of military science for every three months of active duty up to a total of four credits. Credit for additional military training, experience and/or coursework documented on an official military transcript (Joint Services Transcript, or JST) may be awarded, up to a combined total of 15 credit hours. Credit evaluations will generally follow the recommendations of the American Council on Education (ACE) and will typically be awarded as lower-division subject credit and applied only to the extent that the material is applicable toward degree requirements that vary by colleges and programs at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
UNL is also rolling out a new “Reverse Transfer” process that enables students who transfer from community colleges before earning associate degrees to potentially receive their associate degree once they have completed the required credits at UNL. Students receive a message in their portal that informs them they may be eligible along with a link that provides the necessary information to initiate the reverse transfer process.
