On Friday 4th of December, approximately 125 students attended the first #Youth4Climate rally at UNL. The Environmental Studies Program worked with a student planning committee to create the event to coincide with the COP21 climate talks in Paris this month. Vice Chancellor Ronnie Green, ASUN president Thien Chau, ASUN Environmental Sustainability Committee Chair Morgan Battes and SUSTAIN member Benet Kinghorn each spoke at the event designed to both increase awareness of climate change and incite action among UNL students. Students were provided with information about how they can get involved on campus through different departmental efforts in multiple colleges at UNL. Students also engaged in the social media effort #Youth4Climate where the UN, the US Dept of Energy, the White House, NASA and NOAA all partnered to help the global ambassadors to ‘hear’ the youth voice on climate change.
