Changes to Art Minor

Archived Story: This article is part of our newsletter archives. It has been preserved for reference, but the information may no longer be current.

Changes to the art minor in the fall of 2015 include the ability for students to progress through several levels in a single studio discipline. Studio disciplines included in the art minor are Ceramics, Drawing, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture.

To proceed in Ceramics, Drawing, Photography, Printmaking, or Sculpture, a student must be a declared art minor and received a grade of B or better in the non-major course of the same discipline. For example, a declared art minor with an interest in photography who receives a B or better in PHOT161, Photography for non-majors, may continue with the photography sequence and take PHOT262, Photography: wet darkroom. Note that the intro level course for art majors, PHOT261, is not taken. Art minors are not required to advance in a studio discipline, it is merely an option.

Additional changes to the art minor in 2015 include added flexibility between studio art and art history, the ability to apply Art-Special Topics to the art minor, the discontinuation of the plan B art minor, a grade rule (c or better), and a maximum number of transfer credit that may be applied toward the minor (6 cr.).
