It will be quite a monumental undertaking by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Symphony Orchestra.

What began in the Fall 2020, with the celebration of Beethoven’s 250th birthday, and continuing until Spring 2027, with the commemoration of the 200th anniversary of his death, the UNL Symphony Orchestra will perform all nine symphonies in order of their composition.

“Beethoven’s nine symphonies form the cornerstone of the orchestral repertoire,” said Tyler White, Professor of Composition and Conducting, Director of Orchestras. White was raised in a musical family, and Beethoven’s music has been a part of his life since earliest childhood. “They represent the culmination of 200 years of orchestral development in the Baroque and Classical periods, and they set the standard for symphonic composition in the 19th, 20th, and 21st centuries.

“For this reason, it’s essential that audiences and performers—students and professionals alike—continually engage with and reinterpret these seminal works.”
