Come and enjoy an evening of extraordinary music and celebrate the string program at the Glenn Korff School of Music at the Third Annual Friends of Strings Gala on Saturday, April 19 in the newly renovated Kimball Recital Hall.
The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with some light appetizers followed by the main program at 6 p.m. with performances by the Glenn Korff School of Music student ensemble, the Ravnan String Quartet; and string faculty, including Glenn Korff School of Music Director and distinguished violinist Felix Olschofka.
“Some of the highlights of the Glenn Korff School of Music string program are our active orchestral program, led by Dr. Tyler White; our active and thriving chamber music program; and our distinguished string faculty, which includes David Neely, Clark Potter, Hans Sturm, Peter Bouffard, Katie Wychulis and myself,” Becker said.
The Ravnan String Quartet members are selected by the string faculty. The ensemble includes graduate student Jack Carlson, violin; and undergraduate students Laura Watson, violin; Gabriel Marks, viola; and Connor Peterson, cello.
“They have the honor of playing on a beautiful set of instruments made by London-based Lutherier, Robert Brewer Young,” Becker said. “These instruments were commissioned by UNL piano alumnae Yi Xue, who received her master of music in piano with the late Audun Ravnan, distinguished professor emeritus in the Glenn Korff School of Music. We are so thankful for Ms. Xue’s support and for this wonderful gift. The quartet of instruments are all copies of Stradivarius and are absolutely beautiful. I hope to see everyone there.”
