The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Alumni Board had the opportunity to tour the new music building and get a sneak peek at the renovated Kimball Recital Hall on March 13.
The music building is under construction at 10th and Q streets with initial move-in scheduled for May. Then, work will begin to renovate the south side of Westbrook Music Building and demolish the north side of the building to make way for green space in the arts quadrangle.
The new building includes a state-of-the-art recording studio and immersive performance hall enhanced by spatial sound and design capabilities.
Kimball Hall has also been undergoing extensive renovations and is scheduled to open with a Friends of Strings Gala on April 19. An expanded lobby, new seating, updated flooring and lighting and improved wheelchair accessibility for auditorium seating and access to the orchestra pit, are among the highlights of the renovation.
Both projects were funded by the Nebraska Legislature through LB 384.
