The Glenn Korff School of Music celebrated the inaugural Glenn Korff Day on Sept. 10.

The Glenn Korff Day was established to remind us each year of who Korff was, of the amazing things he accomplished and of the heartwarming story of his remarkable naming gift to what is now the UNL Glenn Korff School of Music.

Included as part of the day's festivities was a panel discussion of exemplary philanthropists, who give generously to the arts and education.

This year's panelists included Don Burt, who supports UNL Friends of Opera; Pamela Hemann, who helped create the Earl "Pete" Jennkins Endowed Choral Music Fund; Thomas Olson, who created the Cynthia A. Olson Music Education Doctoral Fellowship Fund in tribute to his wife; and James and Rhonda Seacrest, who served as co-chairs of the Hixson-Lied College's Campaign for Nebraska Committee and are generous supporters of the UNL Opera program.

The day concluded with a dedication ceremony of the outside signage on Westbrook, which featured remarks from UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman, University of Nebraska Foundation President and Chief Executive Officer Brian Hastings, Glenn Korff School of Music Director John W. Richmond, and Jay Pokorny, a life-long friend of Korff.

Korff's naming gift to the School of Music was announced on Aug. 20, 2013, only seven days before he passed away in his home in Boulder, Colorado.
