On Wednesday, April 5th, Dr. Xu Li will present at the next installment of the BSEN 898 Seminar Series. Dr. Li's presentation is entitled, "Fate, Transport, and Management of Antibiotics and Antibiotic Resistance Genes in the Agroecosystem." The seminar will be at 12 pm in 112 Chase Hall.
The flyer states, "Antibiotics are broadly used in the livestock industry to prevent and treat animal diseases.
When animal wastes are stored in livestock waste management structures and applied to croplands, antibiotic residuals may exert selective pressure on microbes and cause the emergence of antibiotic resistance in bacteria. Th is talk will look into the fate, transport, and management of antibiotics and antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), the genetic materials that confer antibiotic resistance, in the agroecosystem. Special emphasis will be given to the roles that sediment and soil play in the proliferation of antibiotics and ARGs in the environment."
