FALL 2018 GRADUATE STUDIES SEMESTER WRAP-UP
Several BSE graduate students shared their publications, fellowships, and other good news in the Graduate Studies Semester Wrap-Up.

Long Chen (advisor Jeyam Subbiah) published:

Chen, L. (2018). "Developing a controlled gaseous ozone treatment chamber to evaluate and optimize processing parameters on low-moisture foods" Poster presented at Alliance for Advanced Sanitation Annual Meeting, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Lincoln, NE, United States.
He was invited by Food Safety Magazine to write a paper on radio frequency pasteurization technology.

Long also received the Widaman Distinguished Graduate Fellowship Award.

Ozge Nayman Tiryaki (advisor Sibel Irmak) published:

Marty Wells (advisor Troy Gilmore) published:
Marty published his first thesis chapter this year. This was an invited submission and all publication fees were waived based on the quality of the manuscript. This research will also be presented in an invited talk at the 2018 American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting in Washington, DC on December 13, 2018.

MEETPAL KUKAL WINS NEBRASKA SECTION ASABE OUTSTANDING STUDENT AWARD
Doctoral student Meetpal S. Kukal (advisor Suat Irmak) has received the 2018 Nebraska Section ASABE Outstanding Student Award. Meetpal is the first graduate student awardee to receive this award in the Nebraska Section ASABE's history. The award was presented to Meetpal at the ASABE annual meeting that was held at the USDA-MARC at Clay Center at the end of October. Irmak mentioned that "Meetpal had his MS degree with me and he is a Ph.D. candidate in my team and exemplifies a truly remarkable graduate student who has scientific curiosity and excellent work ethics. He has all the attributes needed for a great scientist and researcher. He is a very pleasant and kind person and I am fortunate to have him in my research team and I enjoy every second of my interactions with him. I am positive that we will see him continue his accomplishments and service as an excellent faculty member in the near future."
