Name: Cassie Maher
Where do you hail from?
I was born and lived most of my life in Lincoln, Nebraska, except for five years I lived in Rolla, Missouri, as a child (when my parents ran a mom-and-pop restaurant). I graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
What is it they say you do?
I’m the Project Coordinator for the Nebraska Resource Project for Vulnerable Young Children. I coordinate this project’s trainings and meetings, resource development, graphic design needs, and the planning committee for the Nebraska Young Child Institute. I also assist in the implementation of the new Nebraska Center on Reflective Practice. The rest of my job falls under “other duties as assigned".
Who are your early influences/who inspired you most?
My maternal grandparents. I stayed with them on their farm during my summers as a child and learned so much by listening to their stories of living through the Great Depression and WWII (as well as their experiences in raising seven children). Their wisdom still applies today, such as the importance of working hard, helping your neighbor, being thrifty, and enjoying time with your family.
Family life/hobbies /community involvement:
I have an adorably goofy boxer puppy named Roxie. I enjoy reading, scrapbooking, doing craft and home improvement projects, and trying new recipes. I’m also involved with helping homeless shelters.
The quotation I live my life by is......
I have two by Marcus Tullius Cicero:
“A room without books is like a body without a soul.”
“To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child.”
