Name: Alex Labenz
Job Title: Continuum of Care Planning Assistant

Where do you hail from:
I am originally from Omaha. I came to Lincoln for college and have been here ever since.

What is it they say you do:
That is a good question… It really changes week to week depending on the current projects or happenings on the Lincoln or Balance of State Continuums of Care. Right now, we are deep in the process of organizing a grant application geared towards ending homelessness for youth across the state of Nebraska.

What has been your greatest source of career satisfaction/ proudest achievement:
Jumping back into a career after being home with my son for almost two years is a proud achievement. Two years doesn’t seem like that long in the big scheme of your life, but it was still a large change in the routine of daily life to make the transition back.

What has been an unexpected detour/ greatest frustration/disappointment:
Staying home with my son after he was born was definitely an unexpected detour. I never imagined myself as a stay at home parent but I truly cherish the time I was able to spend with him during some of the most important developmental years of his life.

Family life/hobbies /community involvement:
I have a 2 and a half year old son, James, who keeps me fairly busy and entertained. Besides chasing around a toddler, I spend my free time (and maybe a little work time) practicing yoga or with a group of girlfriends catching up over a good bottle of red wine.

The quotation I live my life by is......
Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?' - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
