Janessa Hageman, the president of the Young Professionals at Nebraska (YPN) organization has invited all young professionals at UNL to their fall Kick-Off Event. This is their second year in existence. YPN was designed to help up-and-coming young employees of UNL by providing opportunities for both professional development and networking experiences. Many young professionals who begin at UNL have moved from out-of-state to work here (over 2/3 of our members at their first meeting in 2016-2017 indicated they moved to Nebraska for their current position). They are striving to build community among young professionals on campus in any type of professional/staff role. They would like to recruit more young professionals from across campus to consider this opportunity.
· 37 departments/colleges represented across campus
· Within the last year, they have increased membership 68%, with currently 128 members on their listserv
· Average event participation for 2016-2017 was 22 members
How to Join
Any full time staff or faculty member who considers themselves a young professional is welcome to join and membership is free. YPN Kick-Off Event: Football Friday
Location: Wick Alumni Center Holling Garden, 1520 R St.
Time: Friday, September 1, 5:00-7:00pm (come and go event) with a 5:20pm welcome from exec and programming from the Alumni Association starting at 5:30pm
YPN has partnered with the Nebraska Alumni Association (NAA) to welcome back YPN members for the Fall 2017 semester at a Football Friday event. This family friendly event is a way for Husker fans to connect while enjoying food, games, giveaways and entertainment. YPN will have their own area reserved in the plaza area outside the Alumni Association. Beverages and food available (cash only).
YPN Semester General Meeting
Location: College of Business, Hawks Hall, 111
Time: Thursday, September 14, 11:30am-1:00pm
Join YPN for the first general meeting of the 2017-2018 school year in the newly opened College of Business. The speaker for this semester will be Amber Williams, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Academic Services & Enrollment Management (speaking at 11:45am). The general meeting will also include introductions from the newly elected executive board and committee co-chairs, updates on YPN’s vision and goals for this year, and a networking opportunity to connect with others across campus. A more detailed agenda will be sent out before the meeting.
