Allison M. J. Reisbig is retiring after over 12 years of service to the University in the Department of Child, Youth and Family Studies. Dr. Reisbig is an Associate Professor in Marriage and Family Therapy and Family Science, Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT), AAMFT-Approved Supervisor, and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Her retirement comes after suffering a traumatic brain injury from a car accident in 2015.
Her teaching was devoted to the development of family therapists and family service professionals. She was honored with the CEHS Distinguished Teaching Award in 2011 and the CEHS Outstanding Teaching Award in 2018. She held a research appointment through the Agricultural Research Division of the Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources where she conducted collaborative mental health research in the areas of both human and veterinary medicine. Her most current research is measuring heart-rate variability in animal models to understand the basic science of how emotion is shared between related individuals. Dr. Reisbig’s service included elected positions on the Faculty Senate Executive Committee, the Nebraska Association for Marriage and Family Therapy Board of Directors, and appointment to the State of Nebraska Board of Mental Health Practice.
She plans to transition into a writing career in the future in the areas of family therapy and personal development. All are invited to her retirement reception on Monday, May 13th at the International Quilt Study Center from 3:30-5:30pm.
