The next Durham School Lunch-and-Learn session – featuring Andy Blaszak, general manager at Associated Fire Protection, on the topic “Fire Protection Engineering: Overview and Opportunities” – is Friday, Dec. 1, from 12:15-1:15 p.m.

Fire protection is a broad and complex field that encompasses many different topics, including fire science, fire safety engineering, fire alarm, detection and suppression systems, fire codes and standards, fire investigation, and fire prevention. Fire protection professionals work in a wide range of industries to design, implement, and maintain fire protection systems, and to prevent and investigate fires.
This presentation will provide an overview of fire protection technologies and discuss the opportunities available in fire protection engineering. It will cover:

  • Standard and special hazard fire protection technologies and how they work
  • Latest challenges in fire protection technology
  • Role of fire protection engineers in designing, implementing, and maintaining fire protection systems
  • Opportunities in fire protection and safety engineering

Those who attend in-person – at PKI 160 (Scott Campus) or Nebraska Hall 175 (City Campus) – can register for a boxed lunch. Those who RSVP (link below) by Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 5 p.m. can reserve a boxed lunch, which will be available on Dec. 1 starting at noon
