Clarence Waters, who has been a driving force in the rise of Nebraska’s architectural engineering (AE) program to national prominence, is the first College of Engineering faculty member chosen to receive the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Aaron Douglas Professorship for Teaching Excellence.
The Aaron Douglas and John E. Weaver professorships were established in 2008 to recognize any university faculty member with the rank of full professor who demonstrates “sustained and extraordinary levels of teaching excellence and national visibility for instructional activities and/or practice.” Faculty awarded the professorship may choose either the Douglas or Weaver designation.

Jerry Hudgins, chair and professor of electrical and computer engineering, has been chosen to receive the IEEE Industrial Applications Society’s 2018 Distinguished Service Award at the 2018 IAS Annual Meeting/ECCE, which will be held Sept. 23-27 in Portland, Oregon. Hudgins has served the IEEE in various capacities, including being on the Board of Directors as treasurer (currently) and as Division II director (2013-14), was president of the IAS (2003) and also serving on numerous committees. This prestigious award recognizes exceptional administrative, managerial and leadership achievement; proposal and/or implementation of innovative new Society Programs; dedication to the growth and advancement of the Society and/or its geographic and technical entities.

Jongwan Eun and Chungwook Sim, assistant professors of civil engineering, have been selected as ASCE ExCEEd Fellows and will participate in an ASCE ExCEEd Teaching Workshop. The six-day ExCEEd workshops provide engineering educators with an opportunity to improve their teaching abilities.
