The Department of Computer Science and Engineering will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a weekend of festivities Sept. 6-8. The three-day celebration will include events for alumni, industry partners, faculty, students, staff and stakeholders. Most events are open to the public; select ticketed events were open to those registered by Aug. 20. Attendees may register for the entire weekend or select specific events to attend.

Paul Jasa, extension engineer in biological systems engineering, was recently honored with the 2018 Harold and Kay Scholl Excellence in Conservation Award at the 73rd Soil and Water Conservation Society International Annaul Conference, held July 29-Aug. 1 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Paul was cited for his development of educational programs involving crop production that improve profitability, build soil health, and reduce risks to the environment.

Mark Wilkins, professor of biological systems engineering, has been named Nebraska Corn Checkoff Presidential Chair. The Nebraska Corn Board made a $2 million commitment to the University of Nebraska Foundation in 2014 to establish the permanently endowed chair. The endowment provides annual support to the university’s Institute of Agriculture and Natural Resources for research and development related to corn demand.
