University Teaching Award nominations sought

Colleagues,

Nominations are now being accepted for the University Teaching Awards allocated to the College of Engineering, specifically for the UNL College Distinguished Teaching Award and the UNO Alumni Outstanding Teaching Award. Faculty in the College of Engineering (tenure-line and professors of practice) who have not received these awards in the past 5 years (in 2014 or later) may be nominated for these Teaching Awards. A list of previous recipients in our College may be found at this link.

Complete nomination packages should be submitted electronically to me at lilywang@unl.edu by Thursday, January 31, 2019 at 5 p.m., and include the following:

1) Nomination Letter (maximum 3 pages). The nominator should address the individual's success in teaching. Information on pedagogical materials developed by the nominee, student evaluations in the context of departmental norms, and classroom visits or other peer-review activities are particularly helpful.

2) Abbreviated Curriculum Vitae with special emphasis on teaching (maximum 5 pages). Please include a listing of all courses taught in at least the last three years and highlight published works related to teaching, past teaching awards and recognition, and professional development workshops or symposia attended focused on teaching.

3) Nominee’s Statement on Teaching (maximum 3 pages). The nominee should provide a brief description of his/her teaching philosophy, work with curricular development (courses developed, modified, etc.), and engagement in department- or campus-level discussion on pedagogy. In addition, the nominee should discuss how he/she evaluated student learning, and how he/she modified pedagogy in response to student learning or other feedback.

4) Sample Course Syllabi. The nominee should provide the most recent syllabus from two different courses taught by the nominee at UNL. These syllabi should be chosen to illustrate information provided in the statement on teaching.

I hope you will consider nominating deserving colleagues in our College for these awards. If you have any questions on this nomination process, please let me know.

Best regards,

Lily Wang
Associate Dean for Faculty and Inclusion
