The Systems Administration group for the School of Computing is looking for highly motivated, customer-orientated undergraduate student workers to provide Tier 1 systems support to students, staff, faculty, and visitors. This position would require at least 10 to 15 hours per week and would be paid a starting hourly wage of $12.00. The employee will have responsibilities in both Avery Hall and the Schorr Center (South Stadium office building). Work schedule is flexible, depending on classes and other obligations. Applicants must be currently enrolled UNL students taking at least one (1) credit hour.
Responsibilities would include:
• Assisting users with common issues (email, printing, etc.)
• Troubleshooting user and application issues
• Troubleshooting Windows, Linux and Mac computers
• Keeping computer labs clean, organized, and in working order
• Assist with printer and AV equipment support
• Imaging computers
• Replacing hardware when necessary
• Maintaining hardware inventory records
• Erasing hard drives in old computers and preparing them for auction
• Various tasks, such as writing scripts/small programs, researching products to purchase, etc.
Required (minimum) skills include:
• Excellent communication skills
• Proactive approach to maintenance
• Basic understanding of computer hardware and software components, including printers, networking, conference room and classroom A/V equipment, etc.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Windows
• Familiarity with mac OS
Preferred (bonus) skills include:
• Experience with Microsoft Active Directory (AD)
• Basic knowledge of Linux operating systems
Experience with HTML, PHP, Perl and/or shell scripting
