This Wednesday's OS2G meeting will include a presentation on setting up a Virtual Private Network using OpenVPN.
This is one of the group's more advanced presentations, but users at all levels are welcome to attend and see what is possible using open-source technology.
The presentation will be split into two parts. First, the group will set up a simple, private, three-level certificate authority, using the user-friendly program XCA. Then they'll generate TLS/SSL certificates that can be used for websites (HTTPS), OpenVPN, etc. They'll also demo web server TLS client authentication using the generated certificates. In part two, they will configure an OpenVPN server for client-server mode (typical remote worker scenario) and configure two clients, one desktop Linux client and one Android client.
They will also discuss upcoming elections, Hacktober, and more.
The meeting is on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. in Avery Hall, room 347.
