YouCubed has shared a set of new data science units that are ideally suited for students in grades 6-10 and a new picture book introducing data science to students.
They will keep adding to the teaching units and later provide some data units for younger grades, too. They partnered with some graphic artists in making the booklet – it is available in color and black and white. It can be used as a discussion booklet, or even a coloring book if you use the B&W version, and/or the images could be used separately as posters.
The data science units engage students in data exploration in creative ways. The data lessons can be adapted and could certainly be used with older students.
The unit topics are:
1. Data is everywhere
2. Working with data analysis tools
3. Measures of center and spread
4. Understanding variability
5. A community data collection project
