The Center for Science, Mathematics and Computer Education is happy to welcome back Dr. Susie Katt of Lincoln Public Schools for "part 2" of her January Online Nebraska Math Teachers’ Circle! Join us and Susie on Thursday, March 25, at 7 p.m. Central for more on productive struggle.

In “Productive Math Struggle in Elementary Classrooms: Part 2,” Susie will present more on her book “Productive Math Struggle,” co-authored with John SanGiovanni and Kevin Dykema and published in April 2020.

During January’s Math Teachers' Circle, the group explored six different actions elementary mathematics teachers can leverage to intentionally plan, provoke, and support productive struggle before, during, and after a lesson. These include: value, foster, build, plan, support, and reflect. This session will dive deeper into these actions, providing time for participants to collaborate through discussion and reflection. If you were not able to participate in January’s MTC, that's fine -- a recap of the actions will be shared. Join us to engage with the ideas related to facilitating and channeling students’ struggles in positive ways.

Math Teachers’ Circles (MTC) bring together math teachers and mathematicians with the goal to discover and pass along to students the excitement and richness of problem solving in deep yet accessible mathematics topics.
